"Deno...Denodori.. Dorito.. That is a long word," Rai's eyes narrowed and his brows furrowed as he struggled to repeat the word that his XO had said. He was already not very gifted linguistically, even Rihannsu and Havrannsu slang tripped him up from time to time. Essentially, if it couldn't be learned in a textbook, it was hard for him. He wished he was better at picking up things from social situations or cues but he was surprsingly terrible at determining nuance and tone with others. "I am happy to be catching up now, for sure," Rai said with a slow nod before eating another nugget. He liked hearing about how the Great Loss effected Federation members, and it made him happy to hear there were people who did support relief efforts. Meanwhile on the Romulan side, many people felt as if Federation citizens as a whole simply did not care. Being on the station though, Rai had learned that just like the Romulan people, the views of a few people in positions of power did not always reflect the views of the population. For so long the Federation had been presented to Rai has a monolith.
"That is a great story to hear, I am glad your father felt motivated to help. I... Feel like everyone should strive for that, especially in Starfleet," Rai smiled weakly as he sipped his juice. He sympathised with Xaran's feeling of helplessness as Rai was also a child when the Great Loss happened. They were almost the same age, with Rai being only slightly older. "When the Great Loss happened, I remembered running to my mother, but my aunt pushed me away from the closing airlock door last minute," Rai sighed and shook his head. He remembered the event so clearly, the look on his aunt Eviess' face when she saw a 15 year-old Rai stumbling onto the evacuation transport. "That is why I am a Torre'vnau and not a Khellian, if it was... Ah I won't ramble about Romulan house politics, what I mean is that I felt helpless too, I felt very lost," Rai said with another sigh.
